Need some ideas

Post by kamkiel »

Last night my home was burglarized. My wife's work computer was stolen and the money in my wallet. If the police every catch the a-hole I would like a good finishing technique to use on him(or her). Stealing shit really really rubs me the wrong way. People who feel they are entitled to other people's stuff are seriously messed up in the head.

Sorry, rant is over. Just a bad day. Some finishing techniques suggestions might make me feel better though

Sorry about your home. That really sucks and I can only imagine how angry you are.

As far as finishing techniques, this is a widespread favorite. http://monkeystealsthepeach.com/

I'm usually not a fan of a lacquer finish, so I suggest you use alcohol based stain.

Plenty of it.

Oh and it dries quicker if you set it on fire ;-)

Use good sanding technique all over, especially on the lower stem. Then apply alcohol generously. You may have to recut the round parts, or remove them. Shellac it all with 50/50 cut of Zissner.I personally would use a chain saw then feed the leftovers to the crocs at the zoo!!!

I recently have had to deal with a couple of thieves. It sucks. Good ole machete to the hands I say!

I suggest a deep, craggy blast or a nail-tool rustication, followed by a round or two of shou sugi ban.

Sandblast their fingers, low pressure so it takes a good long time to get to the bone.

Take some more material off the shank with a chainsaw file.

If humans had any sense at all, they'd throw thieves of every kind into bonfires when caught. Then---in a remarkably short time---the world's population of the shitbags would soon be either 1) in the ground, or 2) extremely unlikely to be interested in stealing as a career choice.

Problem solved.

Thanks guys. I feel I am better equipped for the next time this happens. Serious, went out and bought some wood to place in the tracks of all my sliding windows and doors, and an alarm system for the apartment. I also placed a blunted "weapon" conveniently under my side of the bed. Hopefully there is no next time, but if there is then we should be better prepared for it.

Premal, the archaic methods made sense. You can't steal if you dont have hands.

George, it is the "career choice" that really bothers me. To develop a skill set that is used to prey on society is such a difficult thing for me to wrap my mind around.

Now I have to go look up shou sugi ban

Kamkiel,
I am told that being burglarized is some what like being raped.
We just had our vehicles raided, fortunately there was nothing of value and the thieves did no harm other than to empty the glove boxes.
I had some angry thoughts but wound up promising myself to lock the vehicles in the future.
Be glad no further harm was done and get on with your life, it's probably way better than that of the thief.
