Re: #1603 - Horn
I have no critiques for this one. The horn is my favorite shape as well. This one looks wonderful. You did a great job with the grain orientation.

Beautiful pipe. I find nothing to criticize.

A very unique stem for a horn, but I love it. This one is wonderful.
Also, I envy your skills at buttonwork!

Re: #1603 - Horn
Thank you very much guys!
I'm pretty pleased how it sits on the overall shape.
I have not seen this type of stem on a horn either... But you gotta try everything once, right ?Massis wrote:A very unique stem for a horn, but I love it.

Let me preface by saying I'm not a big fan of the horn shape. That being said, visually speaking, I find the shank too heavy for the rest of the bowl and the flare accentuates this imbalance even more. For me, it doesn't work. There also appears to be a slight kink in the stem bend. Great job with grain orientation and finish work.

On the overall visuals, I disagree with you (as suspected ). To me it works, but that might very well be just me ... So I think we can agree on disagreeing?wdteipen wrote:Let me preface by saying I'm not a big fan of the horn shape. On the kink, I think you are right. Very subtle, but it's there... Live (and make more pipes) and learn.
Re: #1603 - Horn
This pipe is absolutely spot on.

The road to perfection starts with being able to criticize the work of others and ends somewhere after being able to criticize your own.

I've never been a big fan of the horn shape. That being said, visually speaking, I find the shank too heavy for the rest of the bowl, and the flare accentuates this imbalance even more. For me, it doesn't work. There is also a slight kink in the stem bend. Great job with grain orientation and finish work.

George, I believe that is near plagiarism. Are you taking lessons from Melania?

(Except that, that road will never end, perfection in unreachable... Ok ok, stating the obvious:)...)
I assure you, I have no lack of self-criticism. I was merely standing behid my visual design on this piece.
