So tempted!

Post by Tano »

Hi all,

I'm so tempted to buy a metal lathe. How in the world do you guys move these 300 lbs beasts into position? Do you rent a motor hoist or what?
For ease of moving it around in case I have to, I'm considering one that only weighs 90 lbs. It has a swing over bed of 7" and distance between centers is 11.8" also comes with a 3" 3 jaw chuck. Obviously no problem turning stems but, will it turn the block? Any comments?

Best to all.

7 inch total swing doesn't give you much room for stummels and doing the bowls. I'd opt for a bigger one if you can manage it.

I just got my neighbor to help me get the lathe out of the back of my pickup and onto the cabinet. Didn't take but a few minutes.

I have a buddy of mine that will have a 7 x 10 speedway metal lathe for sale at the chicago show. If anyone is interested in taking a look at it get hold of me and I will introduce you two.
