Keeping cool in the shop

I've also shaved my head for years - but the Utilikilt idea sure sounds good. I bet I'd be a lot more comfortable that way. Heck, it works when I wear the full thing at the festivals....

And yeah, I agree about keeping a towel handy. I usually have one stuffed in my waistband.

Alright guys, the imagery is too much. Sweaty bald men wearing skirts with a towel for a sporran.

Being a former resident of Santa Clarita, Frank, it is this time of year that I have no regrets with not living there anymore. Although this lame 90 degree 90% humidity that Nick spoke of here in Ohio sucks too...That's it. I'm moving to France!

Central PA has the same 90/90 affair going on. I'm telling you what, it's no fun whatsoever. I'm breaking down this weekend and WILL install an AC in the area of my shop that's not in the basement. If I have to knock a hole in the wall, so be it. I have some work to do in there and this heat wave doesn't look to be letting up any time soon. Thinking about making pipes isn't getting any made, no sir!

It's not so bad in sunny Southern California. It hits 90, but the humidity is neglible. I built an 8' x 8' tool shed with a nice long work bench inside, a couple steel grate windows, wrap around hinges for the two 4' doors, and the roof extends 6' out and over the doors. I swing the doors open and work outside the shed on work tables under the shade of the extended roof. As long as you're in the shade and the sea breezes gently swirl under the kilt, everything is just hunky dory... plus you don't have to worry about dust collection.

Not sure, but I do know they've all renewed their subscription to pipemakers illustrated when I told them I'd be in the "boys of summer" utilikilt issue.

Odd looks so far, no comments. I think if I started doing the dance of the sugarplum fairies on the front lawn though I'd start attracting a bit more attention.

I hate being over heated and often wear my Utilikilt not only when I'm working in the shop, but just just because it's hot. I walk down the road and eat or get coffee or whatever. Sometimes I get asked a lot of questions but sometimes I don't. Most females love them and often comment positively and kilts are 100% more comfortable than pants.

The other day a pal commented that when he sees me wearing my kilt, he always thinks of the Highlander movie. I responded, that yes there can be only one. And one of me is probably enough!

I just don't know if I could do the utilikilt. Something about my balls hanging around unprotected while I work with power tools just makes me uneasy.

Maybe time for me to take a break until it cools off a little. I tried working last night, it was about 95 in the garage, closed the garage door most of the way to keep the bugs out. Sweating like crazy, I drilled a stummel right through. Missed the chamber though. Doh!
