Fox Mini Lathe

Post by Paddington »

Just picked up a nice little fox mini lathe: http://www.rutlands.co.uk/cgi-bin/psProdDet.cgi/F46252.

I purchases mine off ebay for about half the price. Seems to be a nice little lathe. Anyone have any experience with this lathe? :?:

Just my opinion, but I don't see the advantage of a mini wood lathe for pipemaking. I would imagine a lightweight machine like that would vibrate like crazy when trying to drill/bore an off-centre stummel. A mini metal lathe would be more useful, if only for stem making.

IMO, I'd call that a "true mini" wood lathe - and I agree it would be of dubious usefulness. However, it may work just fine if you can find a chuck that fits. It's significantly lighter duty than the 10x14 lathes out there - which are about as small as you'll want to go.

That Fox lathe is probably great for things like pen making though.
