Sequel to ARRRRgRRR##@**!
So I saved the shank/stem assembly from the carpenter bee damaged bowl. Bouldn't really find a block for the same shape but I had another on deck for a bamboo shank. I got lucky! Here's a few pics:

Ok, briar craps out a lot, but here's one. This was a clam where the customer wanted a blast. The pipe was finishing out with great grain and no flaws, and I almost finished it smooth but I knew the customer wouldn't buy a smooth and I didn't want to make another one at the moment, so I blasted it. During blasting, a void that was in a section of briar no more than 1/8" thick and not visible from either side opened up and blew completely through. So, from blasting a smooth to make a sure sale to total loss in a moment. I stained it and gave it to a friend. Eh, whaddya gonna do.

Jack,
First, very nice pipe I like the 1/2 moon deal. I'm glad you show'd it,good the void didn't go through to the chamber and it's smokable. see I'm not the only one. Back to the bandsaw, good cutting!

Gents thats just the nature of briar ..we just screwed one up all by ourselves by shaping too close to the mortise ..I hate flaws in the brain..and no one to blame but ourselves..I mean flawed briar you can forcefully throw into the wall
Notice the streak of light in the upper left corner

Jack, you should have attached a lanyard on there and told the customer it doubles as a keychain, NO EXTRA COST!
That is disappointing. I have a wonderful piece of briar that I had SUPER high hopes for, and I wound up having to rusticate some spots and cut the whole piece down. It came out okay (I'll post some pix later), but not at all what I was aiming at. The allure and the danger of wood, I guess.

A Clam Doodler! What a great idea!
The name sounds a bit perverse though.

I fear the answer to that question...
