Bamboo with O1 steel and brass hinge

Post by meathod »

Just finished this. First time using steel and brass for the entire hinge assembly. I think it turned out pretty good! And yes, I know there is a screen in the bowl, I'm sure everyone here is gasping at the thought of it. Just forget about it alright!

Anyhow Let me know what you guys think, I also did a bit of tweaking to my site, www.dmpipes.com You can also find additional photos of this pipe there if you want to see more. Thanks!

Your work is starting to go downhill, there are a lot of sanding marks still on the pipe.

I still think your bowls look like the tops of Grolsch bottles.

thanks for the feedback.

I've sort of gotten away from that totally smooth sanded look. I don't mind if it is a bit rough in some areas. Keep in mind, those macro shots are extremely revealing. The heads of the brass screws are 1.5mm wide. Those scratches are pretty tough to see with the naked eye.

But yes, you're right, it is obviously not finished to the same degree that you guys seem to strive for. I guess I'm just attracted to what you might call, evidence of the craftsman's hand. Tool marks please me.

Also, here is a full shot..

I would argue with most that claim sanding marks to be part of the art, but here I will agree with you.
Takes nothing away from the overall aethetics.
Freaky, but beautiful, as usual.
