"Hungarian" Oom Paul

Post by bandkbrooks »

I had some left over Cherry from the Oom Paul competition and decided to make another go at an Oom Paul in "Hungarian" style as Sas put it.

The rim doesn't look very symmetrical, but other than the fact that I don't like cherry wood pipes the shape looks very nice. I don't think I've ever seen your stamp before. Very classy looking. Good job.

How did you stamp your pipe? It looks like you fed it through a laser printer!

Hey guys. Thank you. Sorry for the late reply. Yeah the symmetrical aspect is waaaaay wonky. It may be a giveaway to a friend. I have the logo laser engraved at my local Woodcraft store. They come out so clean it's amazing.

I like the bowl shaping on this one. As stated, the chamber shaping is wonky. Something about the shank cap isn't working for me. I'm not sure if it's the groove that's cut in it or that there isn't something separating it and the cherry. A thin wafer of ebonite might make a difference. The faux military stem doesn't work for me on such a large pipe. It really gets lost in the overall composition, IMHO. I like the stem work on it's own just not with this pipe. I also really like the laser etching. Looks real classy.

Thank you Wayne. I may just give this one to a friend as is and call it a learning expierence. I'm not sure though what/ where you are talking about adding the ebonite cap.

A thin wafer of ebonite between the stummel and shank extension to separate the two.
