Yeti Pipe #8
The gent who commissioned this really only gave we one criteria- graceful flowing lines, which happens to be something I love. I took this pipe as an opportunity to practice my shank extension and staining. I feel like my inset stem really came out great this time, and my finish is much glassier. The stain isn't the most contrasty one I've ever seen, but I still like it.
Thoughts?

Very pretty! Nice work. There's something about the angle of the stem that bothers me. I feel like it should come out at a higher angle. I could be wrong though. The extension and rings look great.
Good job.
Brian.

Very nice, man I wish I could get my contrast stain to look like that!

I see what you're saying Ocelot, however in person it looks natural the way it comes out. I think I just shot it at bad angles. I've ogled this stem a ton and I still like how it comes out so I think it must be the photos.

Well, I didn't make the comment, but I was kinda thinking the same thing. I guess Brian and I are on the same wavelength. The Smoking Yeti wrote:I see what you're saying Ocelot, however in person it looks natural the way it comes out. I think I just shot it at bad angles. The contrast stain is excellent. What was your method? I also love the rings on the shank. Excellent stuff.
Now for what bugs me. Growley already mentioned the stem, but I think the flow is slightly off. It seems a little.. I dont know... too streched out without much natural curve. Just my opinion. I guess it looks to me that the block was drilled for a straight pipe, but you wanted to make a quarter bend. I could be way off here. That's just my impression. Some of the big boys may have some more helpful advice.
My complaint is nit-picky. It is a gorgeous pipe. Great job.

Woops. Got you and him confused.
Re: Yeti Pipe #8
The shaping and staining are very nice. However, the composition is too shank heavy, IMO. My eye is drawn straight to the black shank extension past the rings(which are beautiful, btw).
Otherwise, I'd say a job well done!

After seeing this I almost didn't post my own. Hopefully I'll get this good eventually.
