Morta?
Morta?
Anyone have a few blocks they'd bear to part with? I kinda want to play around with it. They don't even have to be really big or nice blocks.
Where do you guys even get your morta?

Re: Morta?
I saw a couple on ebay yesterday I thought about buying. There was one that was about 25 bucks that you could squeeze a small pipe out of. And a bigger one for about 45 bucks you could probably get two pipes out of. The guy selling them is in Alabama if I remember right.

I did a couple of searches today in the pipe section of eba for morta and oak with no results. I guess I'll just keep an eye out.
Still I'd be willing to buy a block or two if anyone wants to sell.

Re: Morta?
I think I just searched bog oak from their home page. there were quite a few knife scales and smaller pen blanks on there too.
Edit: here are the links to the two I was looking at

Re: Morta?
wish I knew, I just sold my last couple pieces of the stuff I got from Askwith a while back.
the guy in Alabama gets his morta from http://www.mdbogoak.com
MD takes payment and then cuts the stuff to start drying. You could expect a month or two before you see anything. Most of what he has will have growth rings 1/8" to 1/4" apart.
Besides that, I have no clue where to find any. I know Askwith had minimal to part with a while back and had none to part with last year.

Thanks for the link Scottie. I went ahead and ordered two of the smaller blocks.
I'll keep you guys posted on how it goes.

My Morta blocks came in yesterday. They look good! Ends sealed with wax and black as sin! I might cut into one of them today!

So that morta on ebay seems like the legit deal to me. I don't know much about the quality of morta but this block made a pretty nice looking pipe:
