That is a beautiful example of a billiard in the Morta medium. Good job.

I hate the material. It sucks to work it, and it smells like a camp fire.

Rad

I am SOOOOOO glad that someone else feels this way about Morta. I HATE it.......I am going to boycot it all together.
Am I Calamity Jane or Annie Oakley??...depends on the day.

Walt --- the shape chosen for the Kansas City show's carving contest this year is le billiard.

You don't have to attend to enter.

Just sayin'

The contest has seven winners. (They make up a 7-day set.)

There are also 0 - n Honorable Mention awards, and every pipe entered appears in P&T magazine (they have for the last four years, anyway, and Chuck says he will continue to do that for as long as possible).

Well I've been trying to make a billiard for a while, but they keep coming out as brandy shapes. I'm hoping to make something contest worthy by then and Hopefully avoid public embarrassment when I get put in the magazine. I ordered the Fall 2013 magazine to see what I can glean from it.

If we did that, you furriners would think it was a case of favoritism when North Americans always won. This way, the best pipes still win without anyone thinking we're beating up on the rest of the world for fun.

That can't be true, else we'd all be running around wearing monocles and top hats. (Plus, you know... the whole cricket thing. What is that, anyway?!)

Very nice Morta Billiard Walt, well done!

A few years back when I was still mashing corn cobs together Chris Askwith hooked me up with a Morta pre-drilled kit. Yesterday though I finished the first Morta pipe I made myself (was a commission so I didn't post it here) . It's funny though in that the first time, a few years back, I thought it smelled great and it was a pleasure to work with. This time I hated the smell, found it a pita to work with, and the whole concept of black dust I found just really wrong. I ordered two blocks from Steve in case I messed the first one up and I think the second block can just sit there on the shelf for awhile, I find myself in no rush to use it ;)

Same boat, buddy. My goal for this year's contest: make a billiard that doesn't cause immense embarrassment. Midling to slight embarrassment would be ok. :P
