Darko Milovanovic - Gilo pipes

Post by Gilo pipes »

Hi all,

I'm Darko Milovanović, pipemaker from Serbia.

I'm making a pipe some two and a half years, make them of briar, morta, olive wood... I named them Gilo pipes, as the nickname of my 4 year old son Gavrilo - Gilo.

I was starting to think that I am able to manufacture my own smoking pipes, after successful restoration of few old ones. Making the first pipe was a tough job as Serbia has no pipemakers, so I had no one to teach me. Since I was without any experience with wood processing or use of the most basic of tools, I was learning how to make a smoking pipe and how to use the tools at the same time. Correspondence with several pipemakers from neighboring countries was very helpful, Abi Natur - Canaan pipes, Domagoj Telisman - Dotter pipes , Daniel Mustran -ND pipes, generously shared with me their knowledge and experience. After I made my first pipe I could not stop myself and then came second and third and so on. My love of the craft was getting bigger.

I present to you some of my works:

And last, made by order, not my style but I could not refuse the challenge to try to make it

The olive wood with the sandblasted morta shank is super cool. Nice work.
