Mimmo Briar

Post by LexKY_Pipe »

Talk about fast. I ordered 20 pieces of briar from Mimmo on Thursday the 13th. It arrived today, Monday the 17th. That's service all the way from Italy. You can't beat working with Mimmo.

The same thing happened with my last order from Mimmo!

He shipped on a Friday, and it arrived on the following Monday.

Since Mimmo is himself a pipemaker, I guess he understands how eager you are to get your briar.
Incidently, since folks were getting crap briar from another European supplier, what is the opinion on Mimmo's briar?

Frank.

Mimmo's briar is excellent. I've heard you can get the same quality from another supplier (I don't know who it is), but you won't get better anywhere.

I was recently doing a club pipe for an online forum, and for the last 8 pipes, I needed tan blasts. I had to cut 9 blocks to get them.

That's pretty phenomenal.

That's about the quality I experienced with Yazid's briar. Very consistent stuff - when you could get it.

Has anyone ordered the packs of 10, 20, or 30 assorted blocks from Mimmo's PayPal page here:

?

If so, what's the distribution of plateaux to ebauchon? Of the ebauchon blocks, are they random-grained or cross-cut? Not sure if I should just do a quickie PayPal order, or request the distribution of blocks and graining that I need.

Kurt

I ordered the 20 blocks. 15 were plateau. Of the ebauchon. 2 were random cut, 3 were a nice cross cut.

Mimmo told me for $600 US he will do a custom mix with exactly what you are looking for. Didn't say how many blocks that would be though.
