Smooth Tomato by CP

Post by Abi Natur »

Hey guys,
it's the tomato time of the year, inspired by the fine St.James parish perique & jalapeno pepers this came out of my workshop. Grandpa's old olive-wood with a lucite ring and ebonite tapered stem & yes' it seems long as it has overall 18,4cm.

Very nice! I have to say, I normally don't like the tomato shape but I've never seen one in Olivewood and the grain on this is amazing! I like the lucite ring as well, adds a nice touch. You said the olive wood was your grandfather's? Is this wood very old?

I call it "grandpa's" in honer to my great-grandfather who started making olive-wood pipes , as in those good all times such craftsmanship was very popular in the community and he shared his smoking instruments with friends ,neighbors and other communities. The knowledge of harvesting, curing etc.etc.comes from him and i am keeping it well and alive.
The wood i use is between approx. 300 - 650 years old ,having in mind that one of the oldest olive trees in the world(2000 years) grows here in Bar, which states a lot about the sort of wood and its quality.
Yej' older the olive wood is the richer and deeper the grain becomes ,when placed & shaped under the right angle you can achieve intense deep reflections on the pipe.
