Re: preparing of briar...??
You could re-boil them for a day or so and dry 'em slow.
You could also fool around with oil-curing and see what the results are. That's the direction I'd go.

Re: preparing of briar...??
Being a tinkerer, I'd take half and boil them, and the other half I'd do experiments with oil curing. That way I could really see the effects of the oil curing compared to the traditional methods.
But I do crazy crap like that.

Re: preparing of briar...??
i was reading about oil curing posted on this forum... it seems to me that the biggest problem with it is to get the oil out of the briar...
cooking in water seems to be an easier method of solving the problem....
the only thing i am asking myself will they be worth doing this ....
but that i can only know when cooking and drying is finished and first pipe made....
regards and thanks

Re: preparing of briar...??
A while back I did a lot of research on oil curing, and made copious notes about what I turned up. However, I simply haven't had a compelling reason to put any of that research to use in a practical manner. The research was mostly conducted as a mental exercise, and as a point of curiosity.
And yes, the hardest part, aside from determining which oil to use, was getting the oil back out of the briar.

Re: preparing of briar...??
from what i have read - i can only agree and say that it seems that i will cook them very soon and leavy them to dry...
hopefully they will be better tasting after that...
..
one question - while cooking - do i need to put anything else in the water or just use a bare water and to change it, let's say, every hour or so??....??
hopefully they will be better tasting after that...

I know my dad used wood soaked in Jack Daniels in the bottom of our gas barbecue to flavor the meat.
Maybe you can boil the Briar in Jack Daniels to give it a better taste?

Re: preparing of briar...??
I heard Rad sweats in his socks so much he doesn't have to boil them with the wood. He just boils the wood in the sweat he rings out of the socks. It just so happens that it does taste a little like Old Bay.
