Critics admited!
Critics admited!
Finally got time to post some photos.
The first one is a freehand:
And this one is a classic billard I made for a friend. His first pipe.
Critics are wellcome.
Note: I should have cleaned the camera lens!, note the white spots on the black stems...

Re: Critics admited!
The billiard is the better of the two but both are extremely nice. Good finish, clean shaping...no critique here.
What did you use for the stem insert? It looks like a metal nut. Cool stuff. Great job.

Yes, it´s a metal nut. I work fixing planes so until I get a stamp I thought an airplane nut would be a funny logo...

How did you insert it into the stem?
Re: Critics admited!
I put it on top of the stem and heat the nut with an electric welder . Once it is hot just press it down and it will melt the stem material and insert.
Re: Critics admited!
i think both pipes are awesome. furthermore i think the little gold nut in the stem idea is brilliant and looks cool too! i think you should keep and continue that idea as your own personal trademark feature.
Re: Critics admited!
I agree. Nice pipes and a cool logo idea!

Thank you all for your kind opinion. I´m glad you like them. The nut has been on all my pipes till now, so I think ill keep it. Thank you for the advice. I´ll post some photos of other pipes soon.
See you,

Re: Critics admited!
The first pipe looks good, but has some flow (as in "balance") problems. The bottom of the shank looks like it flares upwards, which looks strange. The top of it seems to be straight, which makes it looks mechanical when compared with the bowl, which is quite gracious. And the stem seems to be nicely executed but again, it doesn't flow with the rest of the pipe, and it is too long. This is all related with the composition and general shape of the pipe; regarding execution, I can't think of any detail (except that the stem looks dirty in some of the pictures.)
Now, the second pipe is just excellent. With billiards you either succeed or fail; this is a nice, well executed billiard (is the shank oval?)
And the nut? Just sheer brilliance!

Re: Critics admited!
Mmmm... Maybe you are right. The top of the shank shouldn´t be straight. Now I dont know if it should have leaned upwards or downwards... Regarding the stem length, in my opinion the problem is probably not the length, but the proportion between the wooden part (you call is stummel in english, isn´t it?) and the stem. Similar lengths never match very well. So basically I agree with you. Thank you very much for the analysis.Leus wrote:The first pipe looks good, but has some flow (as in "balance") problems. Regarding the billiard´s shank, yes, it´s oval.
Thank you all for the comments!

Re: Critics admited!
Very cool. I like them both. I do agree that the top of the shank on the freehand would look better if it had a slight curve and the stem looks slightly over bent to me. Other than that I see nothing else to criticize. I, too, really like the brass nut logo. Nice work.
