winter wren 2

Post by Jos »

Hi there,

I screwed up this one immediately when drilling (the mortise goes right through into the tobacco chamber),
so it was clear from the beginning, that this would be a shop pipe, and good for surface experiments - so please ignore the crappy stem and the even crappier stem - stummel junction ...

Acrylic stem, 8.5 cm / 3.35 " long, weight 50 g / 1.77 oz.

Critique, please ...

Too bad about the drilling. This one has a very interesting texture. I'd be curious to know how you achieved it. Keep up the good work.

I really like the colors on this one. It's almost a patina copper look. How did you do it?

Hi,

Thanks for your comments!
I brushed it with a wire wheel on my dremel - stained black - brushed again - stained green - brushed again - applied sanding sealer - brushed again - polished with a felt wheel on my dremel.
Sounds complicated, but takes less than half of the time for a good smooth surface  ...

Is a sanding sealer safe to use?

Sure. Shellac is a sanding sealer.

Sorry it got fouled. It's kinda interesting though. Reminds me of a bird. A wren actually. ;)
