Squashed Tomato
Squashed Tomato
I just finished this Tomato up this afternoon. It's a bit more brown than what the pictures show, but you get the idea.
Anyway, just thought I'd share.
As always, thanks for looking.

It's a beauty. Can I ask what the stem material is?

Sure, it's an acrylic "cumberland".AaronC wrote:It's a beauty. Can I ask what the stem material is?

Re: Squashed Tomato
Wow! That's the first tomato I've seen that actually looks like a tomato! I wanna' take a bite out of it (but that would probably hurt). Better to just smoke it. That's a beauty! Nice work.

If you want to acquire some exactly like it go here: http://www.janzen-pfeifen.de/english/frameset.html. It's number 230. Marco is great to work with too.AaronC wrote:Growley wrote:Sure, it's an acrylic "cumberland".AaronC wrote:It's a beauty. Can I ask what the stem material is?

Squashed Tomato
Nicely done. I'm a big fan of the tomato shape. My only advice would be to maybe have a little less bend in the stem. That's a personal preference, of course, and there has been any number of under bent vs. over bent discussions/debates over the years.

Re: Squashed Tomato
Thanks for all the comments guys. I appreciate it.
Some of them make me think I made it look "too" much like a tomato. For me, when I'm going after an Acorn, or a Tomato or some other shape that is named after other non-pipe things, it's my goal not to try to carve a Tomato or Acorn, but a pipe that is reminiscent of a Tomato or Acorn. It seems like a fine line and I certainly haven't mastered it yet.
What are your thoughts around the this subject?
Thanks for the support!
I appreciate it.
Brian.

Re: Squashed Tomato
I think you walked the fine line perfectly; it's evocative. Now if you'd used a green stem with little leaves on it, that would have been over the top.
