The 15th pipe I made, A Freehand Dublin

Just finished the 15th pipe. A Freehand Dublin.
Tragically I droped the pipe when i almost finished it. that made a few dents on the pipe. (I almost cried. )
did this kind of mistakes happen to you?

Yeah, I've had more than one pipe be flung out of my hands by my sander. I painfully remember replacing the stem....twice...due to dropping it and breaking the tenon off.

I had one break just today because it apparently didn't want to be cut on my lathe. It was 6" of acrylic already drilled, and I had already fitted the beauty rings on it, so I had a good bit of time and care already put into it.

Oh well. More practice for me I guess.

But I digress...I really like this pipe you made. Congratulations.

Very nice pipe but if you drop it again, we're going to have to take it away from you. Maybe give it to your little sister to play with. She has crayons; says she'll wax it right up for you. See, it could be worse.

Yeah, I've dropped a almost finished pipe before on more than one occasion. One trick you can use to remove dents is to steam them out with an iron and a wet paper towel or cloth. You can get most if not all of the dent out or at least get it close enough to lightly sand and refinish.

Oh yeah, dropping of a pipe is so frustrating. My damned wheel loves to play fetch with my work- I guess I need to be more careful.

I have a buffing system on my lathe, and it grabbed a couple pipes. I decided to get smarter than the lathe. Now I put some carpet down strategically when finish buffing and applying carnuba. The last time I lost one to the lathe, I was seen running through the neighborhood, half naked, attacking squirrels, cats, small children... well, you get the picture. That's when I applied the carpet idea.

I put a heavy rubber mat on the floor at the buffing machine most of the time if it grabs my piece is thrown straight down and the rubber seems much more gentle than the concrete
