More Pipes for Hubesy
Re: More Pipes for Hubesy
Lol! "Hubesy?"
Nice pipes, Nate! If I had to pick any one thing, I'd say: More good. Less suck.
Hope this helps.
That's whatcha get for callin' me "Hubesy."

Re: More Pipes for Hubesy
Ok, but you'll need to clarify the 'less suck' part.UberHuberMan wrote:Lol! "Hubesy?"

Whoa. Given the choice, Hubesy doesn't sound so bad.Nate wrote:Ok, but you'll need to clarify the 'less suck' part.UberHuberMan wrote:Lol! "Hubesy?"

"More good. Less suck." is a phrase I used to hear a lot from a college professor of mine. It's what he would say to students who were overall doing very good work, but were not yet achieving their own brand of perfection. He used this phrase to tell us with humor, "You're doing great. Now fix the things that you know aren't great."
That being said, none of these suck at all. To get serious for a second, I hope you know that I really like your stuff and I honestly apologize if I've gone too far with ribbing.
If I were going to give any feedback, I'd say keep working at breathing life into your work. Two out of three of these lack a sense of shared or complimentary energy in the composition as a whole, IMO. (the pokers)
On the second poker, I think the portion of the bowl beneath the shank should be shorter.
As always, please take these with a grain of salt. I sho' ain't no pro.

I think I agree with Hubesy about the height of the shank on the second poker. I don't think it's bad, by any stretch, but I like the low slung shank on the first one better. Not that you need do the same thing on every piece, of course. I like they way you worked the panelling into the saddle on that one, a lot, as well. Good stuff.

Re: More Pipes for Hubesy
Thanks Micah! Yeah, I was going for a little different look. I agree, the lower shank looks better. I was partly worried with a tapered stem I'd lose the balance and no longer have a settermredmond wrote:I think I agree with Hubesy about the height of the shank on the second poker.
