Any tips on making the yellow contrast look less yellow?

There were some issues with the stem early on so that is why there is a slight gap/misalignment.

Seriously though, you might try adding a touch of brown to cut down the brightness of the yellow. It shouldn't take much.

Have you tried wiping it down with alcohol? Wet sanding with alcohol, then wiped? That should mute it some.
