Pipe Pouch

Post by The Smoking Yeti »

What're your guys' sources for pipe pouches? I need a classier delivery system, and I was hoping for a good source of leather pouches- is there anyone who can engrave my logo as well?

my daughter is making mine right now, with a deep red velvet and a gold chord

not sure she could beat the prices of others though, but she is really good. She does not do embroidery.

well I suppose if one were to smoke to excess it would be a sin

"but what would be smoking to excess?"

Why smoking two pipes at once of course

I do seem to remember seeing threads on this very issue.

Here's one, I'm sure there are others.

Check out http://www.smokinholsters.com and http://www.whitewoodleather.com. I have pouches from both and they are very nicely made.

I'm thinking of giving these folks a try. It looks like they would have what you need.

My wife is not domestic at all, so I either have to buy or make my own pouches.

I still find it hard to believe the number of you who buy in pouches, they must be one of the simplest things to make.

Jogilli it's not the foot that's important it's the needle /thread/ foot pressure combination. Look for leather needles (jean or denim needles at a push) with a bonded nylon thread, different countries have different size names which can be confusing.

You will need to adjust (normally increase) the upper and lower tension to allow for the 'drag' caused by the binding effect of the leather as the needle passes through, increasing the foot pressure also helps.

A lot of modern sewing machines just aren't designed to handle leather thicker than 1mm so look for thin calf, goat, horse or buckskin. Avoid leather with super shiny finishes as these are coated with Polyurethane (PU) and are harder to sew.

An older metal bodied machine like this when set up properly can handle about 4mm of leather and is what I used for many years when making leather pouches, sporrans, trousers, medieval shoes etc.

Thats a nice sewing machine. When I bought one for my girlfriend I wanted an older machine rather than a plastic modern one. Looked on ebay for a few weeks and for the price of the new plastic crap we picked up a Singer 519K in pristine condition. The thing weighs a ton but is powerful, smooth and has loads of features she can use on other projects. Came with all the available accessories and manual, all we had to do was get some more bobbins and needles, oh and i repalced the drive belt as it was a little old, other than that it worked perfectly right away.

Rather than list what I can do what I can't do is plastering and hang on to money.

Curry and chocolates no problem, I even make liqueur chocs with sugar shells, sponge cakes like you wouldn't believe, hunt with rifle bow spear or axe, dress the kill and tan the hide. Do fancy hair styles, design and make clothes for both men and women (mainly historical), really piss off people.

I'm just lucky in being able to pick things up really quickly which is one of the better aspects of autism.
