Post by CigarBoB »

Im looking for an orgional gift for my father for his birthday in a few weeks. I know ive seen a few sites that show some of the pens they have made along with the pipes. But i can not find them. So if any of you can help me with a couple of sites that make nice custom pens i would appreciate it.

Theoretically, Trever makes Morta pens, or at least Emily does, or is supposed to. I know they both have talked about doing this, and they have the parts but I've never seen more than a few. You may want to ask him if he has any.

I have made a few dozen, but not for some time now. I don't enjoy making them. There is not much room for creativity because they are made from kits. That takes a lot of the fun out of it for me.

Yes, we make our own pens from custom-engineered parts as well as readymade bits, in morta and rosewood and cocobolo and a bunch of other materials. We actually do a lot of business in pens but I don't put them on the website or really promote them online because I don't have the time, and they sell so well in the retail shop that it isn't worth the bother of photography and all. Em has probably made easily over a hundred pens to date. They aren't cheap, though - IIRC the basic ones start around 85 euros and gold-tipped morta pens are near 200 euros.

I enjoy making pens during my "down time". However, I rarely sell them any more, and just include them as gifts for folks that buy mid-grade and higher pipes.

However, I have had folks seek me out after seeing a pen I gave to someone, and ask to buy one. I never say no. :)
