First one I overdrilled the bowl a hair and kept for myself. The bottom was just .10 thick before I built it back up with bowl coat.
6" long and 25 grams, smokes like a f-ing dream.
Mortise is delrin lined, tenon is SS.

I see you're making your pipes anatomically correct now. Interesting.
Re: Cutty(s)
Second one is for a customer and the bowl is .25-.35 everywhere, including the bottom.
5.90" length and also 25 grams

Re: Cutty(s)
The other style I'm making has a great big sandpit right in the bottom of the shank. Stick them together and you get a bunch of little nosewarmers in 6 months.d.huber wrote:I see you're making your pipes anatomically correct now. Interesting.

Re: Cutty(s)
Did you do a derlin sleeve for the tubing?

Re: Cutty(s)
I drilled the shank the same as if I was doing a .25" delrin tenon, epoxied in the tenon and then drill it out for to fit the stainless.

Re: Cutty(s)
Took me forever to figure out just how to do it, at what speed, with what bit. Delrin stretches so much that a drill bit that gets briar to the right size may be too tight or too loose in delrin. It has a lot to do with how fast you're turning on the lathe and also how fast you're feeding the drill bit into the material also, and drilling the delrin before its in the shank will be different than drilling it seperately then inserting it.
That's my experience anyhow.

See that's brilliant. Who needs to make more pipes when you can put them to work for you?Alden wrote:The other style I'm making has a great big sandpit right in the bottom of the shank. Seriously though, these both look great.
Re: Cutty(s)
Man I'm really digging the grain orientation on that first one. Great work on them both.
Re: Cutty(s)
Yeah good question! I thought I would be thinner on the shank.
