Compressor Upgrade
Compressor Upgrade
Looking at a 5 hp 230V single phase compressor, presumably two-stage head.
Looks like I can get an Ingersoll-Rand, CAS, or Eagle for about the same money. I've been beating the shit out of an Eagle twin tank portable for YEARS - can't believe how good it's been, so that's the way I'm leaning, but I'm open to suggestions. These are about $1600.00 new.

Here's the extent of my compressor knowledge: Get the one that blows harder than you do.
Hope this helps.

Nathan's post was, I think, in jest. He knows that nothing blows harder than I do.

I have never jested in my life. (I have, however, been known to be annoying and sarcastic.)Sasquatch wrote:Nathan's post was, I think, in jest. He knows that nothing blows harder than I do.

Truer words have ne'er been spoken. Sas is a blowhard.

I here-by tender my apology for starting us on this hurtful path. After being fully reprimanded by the administrators, I renounce my divisive ways and ask for forgiveness. Please know that I am sorry for any slight against the likes of one Todd Bannard, aka "My Hero", and that I pledge myself to doing whatever I can to make this right. Also, please note my previous post about sarcasm.
Re: Compressor Upgrade
I LOVE my Snap-On. She runs quiet and for very short periods of time, pushing out all kinds of air. The other day I was blasting, thinking, "Hmmm, that compressor has been running the entire time." ...it was my shop vac. It's louder than the compressor.
Re: Compressor Upgrade
I've been super happy with my Ingersoll-Rand, but I think these are all decent compressors.

Re: Compressor Upgrade
I recommend Craigslist. At least around me, unlike lathes, lots of suitable compressors can be found. For $700 or so I bet you can pick up exactly what you are describing. Our needs are insignificant from a run-time perspective compared to a paint shop or auto repair shop. These small industrial-sized machines that suit us have a lot of value to us pipe makers even if the nameplate says the machine has a little age on it.
I bought a 1976 model Champion. It leaks a little oil and looks horrible, but it still makes 17 CFM at 175psi. That sprays glass bead pretty good.

I don't want a shop full of dirty foul stuff like you have, Tyler.

Re: Compressor Upgrade
I like my Ingersoll-Rand also although I purchased the 7.5HP. It doesn't have to work too hard while sandblasting.

Knowing that you are a material girl, I recommended a $700 purchase point. I paid $100.Sasquatch wrote:I don't want a shop full of dirty foul stuff like you have, Tyler.
