Things I have learned in the last week
Things I have learned in the last week
1. You cannot re-chuck a stummel and hope to center a shank that has already been turned. 2. when putting a band on the shank do not sand the shank too small at the stummel shank junction, You will not be able to make the shank, band, and stem equal. 3. When using a pin gauge to face something make small passes or risk having to use larger pin gauges to prevent slippage, thus increasing the size of the original hole. 4. Drill the mortise for a delrin tenon in one cut not several small cuts that could make the fit to loose. I haven't made a pipe in a while but My education continues. Norm.

Ivory, Ebonite, bone, teeth all stink. Bakelite smells good, but is bad as hell for you to breathe.

The motors on Delta dust collectors can burn out their start windings.
Re: Things I have learned in the last week
Running rigid pipes for dust collection is a bitch. All these damn Ys and angles. Its like putting together a puzzle, except the puzzle doesn't come in a box. You got to pick out all the pieces off a shelf and then magically make it all fit. Missing a piece ? Another 40 minute drive to Woodcraft.

You can re-chuck the stummel and get the shank center as long as your tools allow you to. I have done it a few times.notow1 wrote:1. Knee pads help, when you are old and have to find the pipe, the rest is protected.

Re: Things I have learned in the last week
If you are still able to find the pipe, no damage have been done!
