Thanks for the comments guys. I still know where all the little errors are but I do think I am getting more comfortable with this stuff.

Done. If I had time, I'd make another with more of a concave side taper on the stem, and a slightly smaller bowl (for starters).

Re: 2014 Pipe In The Hat Trade.
Overall I'm pretty happy with this pipe. I do however feel I could have done better. I know I put a can't to the bowl and that is not a typical characteristic of of a prince. I also noticed after beginning the finishing process that I should have shaped it like a a ball and then work the back side of the bowl to get a line similar to that of a billiard. (More vertical till about 3/4 way up and the roll it forward a couple degrees) I also should have put more flair to the stem to obtain mor of a fish tail At the bit. I intended to, but was nervous about removing material away from the shank. The drilling is flawless, the draft hole is 5/32 then reamed and the chamber is 7/8 done very nicely with a
J. Alan chamber bit. The stem is Cumberland and has a 1/4 integral tenon. Whom ever receives this pipe will have the option of bare briar bowl or coated.

here's my first try which didn't end up as a prince, maybe a butchered apple, and I don't have time to do another one before Chicago.

All done. I will post Picts tomorrow. I don't really like how it looks but this could be for a blind prince to use, haha.

Here's the finished product. My first attempt at a prince. This was a pretty challenging shape. That's not a burn mark at the bowl/draught junction. It's just some residual moisture from being cleaned with everclear.

I know, right!!Solomon_pipes wrote:damn Steve! 1354 briar blocks at your disposal and you chose THAT one? lol j/k good luck in Chicago
Actually it's more like 7500 blocks at my disposal, but the good ones get sent to people who can do them more justice than me. This pipe is from strawberry briar. Lousy picture of a lousy pipe, but the grain has some really neat character, wish the pipe did too...

Re: 2014 Pipe In The Hat Trade.
And now for some bad news.....I dropped my pipe last night and broke the stem and won't be able to sandblast it today because it's going to rain. So now someone gets to tell me if I can still play or not
I will get it all finished before the end of the week.
I will post the updated list a little later this morning. For everyone who isn't finished yet, let me know if you are still working on your pipe or are going to drop out.....I'm looking at you Mr. Yeti

Am I Calamity Jane or Annie Oakley??...depends on the day.

Thanks Cooley! I've been working on my photography skills. Before making this pipe, I didn't pay much attention at all to the prince shape. It looked so bland to me. But after going through the process of making one, I have a much greater appreciation for this shape. I daresay I even like it quite a bit!E.L.Cooley wrote:Mightysmurf8201, it looks great! +1 on letting Scottie play

Now that you all are nearing the end, will there be discussion regarding pith2015 shape? I know this discussion did not begin until dec13. But for a slow part timer like myself?
