Retirement gift

Post by Nick »

Well, my pipe smoking buddy in the office is retiring after 36 years here. Wow! I'll really miss him. So I made him a pipe to wish him well:

I tell you, I was so embarassed when gave this to him. Naturally, we headed to the smoke shop for lunch. He loaded up the pipe, and I was bursting with pride. Flicked his lighter....and couldn't suck a darn thing through the pipe. He fussed with the tobacco. Ran a cleaner down the stem, and bump. The cleaner wouldn't pass the stem. It was then that it dawned on me what had happened. I didn't like the fit of the tenon, so i put in a new delrin tenon. Well, when i glued it in, the glue must have sealed up the draft hole. D'OOHH! A quick zip with a drill and he was off and smoking. Still, what a goofy thing!

Nick,
A great pipe for a fine friend! I can see that you put a lot into it, with the mind toward a long life for the pipe. Sweet! :D
