Re: 3rd pipe

The pipe is leaning slightly to the right in that photo making it appear worse than it is. one side is a little more round than the other, but i didnt notice untill you mentioned it. I dont know if i should try to correct it or not, my friend isnt picking it up untill saturday...

3rd pipe

It has been a while since I have actually finished a pipe. I was collecting tools and materials, but now that i have some tools and blocks I am back to work. I had started a 3rd pipe, but cracked the shank, so this is the 3rd finished pipe. I was able to use a lathe to make things square/round and i...

Re: Chicago Show Report

Film at eleven? come on Bruce, you tease! what was new this year? for the poor guys that didnt get to go. like me. More importantly, what kind of pipe supertools was Todd Johnson showing off at the show? I had heard talk of custom tools on this forum.

Re: To Drill Before Or After

I have only made a few pipes, but in my experiance it is much easier to shape if I make chamber drilling one of my last processes. I use a compass to mark the top center of the block and the top diameter of the stummel, that way i can have a truly round stummel, even if i have to remark the circle a...

Re: 2nd pipe

sas I appreciateyour input. I was thinking the same thing on the rim chamfer. It just seemed like a lot of things could go wrong if the briar was thinned near the rim of the chamber. The chin seemed too big when i finished shaping, but the pictures look ok, so maybe thats some photo trickery. I just...

2nd pipe

Hey guys, finished my second pipe yesterday and started shaping on the third. This pipe is simllar to the first, although not as compact and hopefully a lot more defined in the shaping. I used a ebuchon block, turned on its side to try to get some flame on the sides. When i sanded though, most if it...

Re: new member, first post, first pipe

charl, thats the plan! I've already ordered 4 more blocks as well as some other supplies, so when they arrive ill get to work and produce some more pipes that hopefully have fewer obvious flaws. I hope have a few hours to get a pipe layed out and rough shaped friday. It just occured to me that i may...

Re: Some of my pipes

amazing work! i was curious what source you used for the bamboo on your billiard nosewarrmer?I have several blocks coming, and was planning a chubby poker with bamboo, but everything i have come across is pretty small diameter.

Re: new member, first post, first pipe

thanks guys. it was extremely difficult to get the chamber mortise and airway drilled straight using a cordless drill, and was the first area i encountered problems. Most of the other problems stemmed from that. the bowl top and sides can never be symmetrical when shaping after that., plus the morti...

new member, first post, first pipe

I want to say first that i have been lurking around this site for about 5 years now, but never felt the need to become a member due to having nothing to contribute. I was finally inspired to order some supplies by a recent series of pipes designed by Greg Pease/Diapiazzo. Their nosewarmer bulldog, a...
