Fellas, my PITH pipe is nearing completion, but I need a few more days to get it finished. It’s shaped, the stem is profiled, everything is glued up and ready for finish work. Crazy work schedule this week, so no time in the shop.

I’m in again! I had a lot of fun last year. I’m excited to see what we come up with to make this year.

Re: How to Achieve Finish like Big Ben “Pipos”?
I have gotten a similar finish by finishing to a high gloss, minus wax, and then wiping everything down with denatured alcohol. Make sure the stain is set, though, and go easy on the alcohol, or you can undo a lot of stain work.

Re: Lathe Chucks
The thread count is 8 to 1, if I remember correctly. And my goal is to be able to keep the pipe jaws on my 4 jaw chuck, and be able to turn larger diameter stem and accent stock on a 3 jaw. Also I would love to be able to drill after I shape, and my 4 jaw chuck won’t hold my smaller drill bits. Does...

Re: Lathe Chucks
I’m looking to buy a 3-jaw chuck that will fit my Rikon wood lathe. I know the more experienced guys will say, “Don’t waste your money on accessories for a wood lathe, upgrade to a metal lathe”. And while I understand and agree, it’s just not in the budget at the moment. Is there a quality 3-jaw chu...

Re: PITH 2019!!!
I’m curious the process that you guys go through when you are deciding what shape to make for PITH. Do you draw shapes? Do you google ‘plateaux pipe’ and see what comes up? You you go back through your old patterns and see what might work?

Re: Magnets in a Pipe Rack
I know this is an old thread, but I’m curious if any of you found a particular size magnet that worked well? One of my customers commissioned a magnetic pipe rack, and I need to buy magnets, but I’m not sure what size.
Thanks for any help you can give!
