Re: #6 and #7
Nice pipes. I especially like the first one. It's very creative the way the flat bottom runs through and then curves up at the end of the shank, and kind-of droopy looking on the sides like a boxer dog. Very nice. Too bad about all those crappy sand pits. c'est la vie. I'm still hopeful that the br...
#6 and #7
I finished these last night. They are small but feel very good in the hand. This is the pipe that I copied. Made by R.M. Perkins. This was a fun pipe to make.

I'd call it a horn rather than a Dublin though.

My First Horn
I decided to stop practicing on oak and buy some briar. Well, although it has pits all over it, it's much easier to shape than oak. I really like the way this one turned out. This is my first ever stem I turned on my lathe. I worked on this pipe for several hours trying to get it right. I'm very tir...
Re: Bent Oak
I agree. This block was very small, I didn't have much to work with. I actually contemplated not using it at all, but what the heck. I learn a little something on each one.

Bent Oak
I finished this one last night. This is my first shape then drill. I don't care for this approach just yet, maybe when I get better. I have some new wood to try this weekend. Maple and Locust. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-yHhusPrmlCo/TleYUFZr_AI/AAAAAAAAAXk/a96InZLi2UQ/s912/2011-08-26_08-55-42...

Re: Oak Billiard Updated
That's better. Now make the top of the bowl cant forward, instead of sloping it back so it is parallel with the shank. It looks like you drilled it with a proper cant, then didn't follow through with the rim. The rim should be perpendicular to the axis of the chamber on all 360 degrees. Good info. ...

Oak Billiard Updated
I made the changes that Sasquatch suggested. I think it's a much better pipe. This forum ROCKS!!! I removed material at the front of the bowl and I removed the taper on the shank. Now the shank is only .002 from end to end. Thanks for your help Sasquatch. Wallaby https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-w...

Re: Oak Billiard
Well, Wallaby, you're doing a bunch of stuff right (especially in oak) - stem/shank transition looks good. You're shank tapers a little more than a proper English shape should do, and the bowl could use more material off the bottom to present as a little lighter/finer in the shaping department. The...

Oak Billiard
Well after the billiard failure yesterday, due to crappy briar, I decided to raid the firewood pile once again. At least I know the oak will not be full of cracks and pits. Re: Almost a Billiard
Something has to change, I'm tired of spending hard earned money for P.O.S. briar.

Almost a Billiard
I had few hours into this pipe when two large deep cracks opened up. No way to salvage it. The grain was beautiful, this billiard would have been a nice pipe. It transitioned into a fastball, straight into the basement floor......yes I have a temper. I'm through with ebay briar. https://lh5.googleus...
