Re: Scottie P. vs. Ollie S. on OomPaul.com podcast
It was great to see Scottie's name turn up in my Oom Paul podcast feed! Great interview and good to match a voice to the personality we know so well.

Re: Pipemakers, craftsmen? Artists? Engineers? Bodgers?
I haven't formulated my own opinion yet, but I have a couple of things I could add. There's a large possibility it would hinder rather than help though! Firstly, before you can begin to answer the question "are you an artist?", you have to define what 'art' is. That turns the conversation ...

Re: How thick should the bottom of the bowl be?
31 views and no response? Well, coming from a chap who is a pipe smoker and is yet to actually complete his first pipe - take my R0.02 for whatever it's worth! I reckon you have an extra couple of mm to play with there. As long as you leave 3 or 4mm between the base and the chamber the worst that ca...

Re: Magnets in a Pipe Rack
I've done the same for my pipe cabinet. 2mm thick 20mm diameter rare earth discs in the shelfs and 10mm ball magnets in the pipes themselves. Works like a charm, but a 3mm disc might be slightly better as some of the bigger pipes could use some more grip. Oh cool, thank you for the information! It'...

Re: Magnets in a Pipe Rack
I'll buy some and hopefully it'll work out. I was hoping not to have to buy a bunch and try them out 'cause I'm a student with no money! But thankfully they're not actually that expensive on Amazon. I don't have any pointy pipes at the moment and I think by the time I do I'll have to make another mu...

Re: Magnets in a Pipe Rack
Thanks Chas. I wasn't sure if rare earth would be too strong or if something cheaper would suffice. My plan before the magnet idea was to use a forstner bit to make a 2 or 3mm nest for each pipe in the base of the rack. If I went a bit deeper (the base is 10mm thick) I could epoxy in the magnet and ...

Magnets in a Pipe Rack
Hi chaps, So I was given a couple small lengths of mahogany by a friend and peer of mine at the Boat Building Academy and I've decided to make a little 5 unit pipe rack out of it. Since then I read the thread on the subject of the running pipe preparations and Micah suggested the stand could use mag...

I've never heard of this PayPal reader thing before, but surely if you're paying stranger using this method it poses a huge security risk?

I do want critique but from what you wrote its more towards a insult or bigotry. No wonder some new pipe makers and some veterans do not post there work onto this forum you make them either hide or run. II understand that critique can be painful and feel like a personal attack- I have felt the same...

It's a rustication- if you do a forum search on it, you'll come up with a wealth of info- in general it's a carved texture. The manner of the carving makes all the difference. Ah! I knew it probably fell under rustication, but I thought it might have a more specific name. It's good to know I can ca...
