Briarfox: The pipe mud method will be a good solution - but in my opinion it'll be better to use a mixture of waterglass and carbondust, mixed to viscous slurry. This mixture will get more heat resistant than pipe mud, I think. Just my two cents, but I'm an chemist and I trust more in this method, I...

Some new work

After a really work intensive Christmastime, now I found some time to finish two more pipes: First an very small and lite pipe, resulting out of an attemp to create a giant billiard! Too much flaws and spots made it neccessary to change the shape and I got this one out of the briar: http://www.hg-do...

Scott, very well done! The shape really matches a classic Bulldog. Only shank and stem could be a little bit thinner in my eyes - but that's only my personally mind! I'm sure, you could do it, if you want to and you had your own thoughts to do it as it is... For the blasting I can imagine, th...

Very nice work, Love! The "bamboo" is not my favorite kind of pipes, but very well done work! The 2nd pipe is one I would like to own myself! It's amazing in every detail! Great shape, unbelieveable grain, especially the bird-eyes and very good stemwork in my mind! Great! The YY is very in...

Hi Michael, sorry, this one look a little bit too "synthetically" to me... Nice stemwork and the shank is pretty too - but the bowl looks too much as "only disc grinded" to my eyes. The tobacco chamber is too much out of center in my mind and I would have tried to get the ...

I agree to Rad: It's better to start low to get some experiences! But not too low, of course! It's very difficult to find the right way by yourselfe... Everybody is convinced of his work and you may be satisfied with every pipe you finished - but you've to get as much feedback of potential customers...

Scott, thank you for any comment to my work (suspicious substanzes included)... :P In natur the stain isn't as red as on the pics. It's more light brown. I grinded down the contrast stain so much to better bring out the nice birdeyes - with a darker stain they're nearly invisible! The "clouds&q...

Some briar-products: 1 pipe and 1 juwelcase...

Because in near future it's Christmas again, I needed a gift for my mother in law's new earrings. So I decided to make a nice juwelcase out of one of my briar blocks:  http://www.hg-doeteberg.net/pfeifen/dose_01.jpg http://www.hg-doeteberg.net/pfeifen/dose_02.jpg But I also finished another p...

Hi Scott,

very nice pipe! In my eyes just the shank/stem junktion on the bottom side makes this pipe looking very elegant. Normaly I would agree, that the shank could be a little bit thinner, but from the side view I like it as it is! very great bird-eyes on the border of the bowl...

Hi Ben, the shape is very interesting and I would like to see it with a perfect peace of briar (I mean the rusticated side...). A little bit courius with the shank, but who cares! Without the drilling problems it'll be the kind of pipe I would like to own... Congrats for the new shop and I'm looking...

Thank you guys again for the kind comments! @ Steve: In natur the effect is even better then the pics can show. On the pics the pipe lays on one side and the perspective angel let's the stemm look a little bit to short and to smal in relation to the bowl - but in reallity it matches the dimensions v...

Corrected Pipe #5

Normaly I don't like to change a finished pipe at all, but one of my pipes needed a new stem, because I destroyed the original, while I tried to correct the bit with a "V" inside. Also I was told, that the symetry isn't very good... So I made a new stem, reshaped the stummel and refinished...

How to apply carnaubawax?

Everybody is talking about nice smooth finishes and how to do it: Grind off any scratches up to a grid of xxx, stain the briar, if you want to, seal the stain with what ever (shellack, danish oil, or anything else), buff with brown tripoli, white tripoli and then coat with carnaubawax... So far so g...

Sgreasso, at first im my mind every try to make a pipe is worth to love it! Improofement is the thing everyone of us is looking for as much as we can... So take a look at as much pipes as you can and try to imagine, how the pipemaker made any detail. Then try to do it by yourselfe! It's more efficie...

I can totally agree to that point: Pipe shows are great for learning more about pipemaking! As a beginner from March 2006 I finished 13 useable pipes so far. The first ones are only good for the gallery but then I visited the German Pipemakers Show in August. I met some German pipemakers and got a l...

The best advice I ever got so far was from Rainer Barbi. At the German Pipemakers Show 2006 in Rheinbach he told me how to make realy good stemwork. He explained how and why to make any details on a good working mouthpiece and since this time I tried to follow his advices. The result is indeed a muc...

Small Billiard

Just finished another pipe. A little Billiard from a smaller plateau block: http://www.hg-doeteberg.net/pfeifen/eb13_06.jpg http://www.hg-doeteberg.net/pfeifen/eb13_07.jpg The pipe is 135 mm long (stummel 78 mm, stem 57 mm) and 42 mm high. The diameter is 35 mm in the widest range and 29 mm at the b...
