Re: Starting out

Great fun. And a terrific post. I wonder if some where, a few hundred years in the future, some archeology geek will unearth this forum and wonder what the hell we're talking about. Hehehe! I doubt I'll ever sell my pipes. Or at least seriously. I am making one for a guy now, and he wants to pay me....

Pipe Lingo/Terminology

Well, I was chatting with a new guy here who felt a bit overwhelmed by the lingo we use. So i thought a glossary might help. We can all add to is, as i am sure I haven't covered everything. Bowl : this one's easy. Tobacco goes here Button : The raised portion at the end of the stem, around which you...

Re: Has anyone used

I love Elforyn, but I think it's probably best for things like trim and inlays and I use ivory for that. TJ That's fine for you Mr. Snottypants, but some of us are allergic to real ivory and horn and stuff. Besides, the use of real ivory contributes to global warming. Rad Rad, The flatulent cloud h...

Re: Shape advice request

Yeppers. I'd agree with all three things noted there. On the whole, its a fine pot. Define the shank/bowl junction just as Kurt says. The shank should actually reach under the curve of bowl. Think of a cylinder being pressing into the underside of a ball. Or, think of the draft hole meeting the bowl...

Re: Making wooden lathe jaws

Dounds like a pretty dangerous idea to me. But I suppose if you got the right wood.... No clue what that wood would be, but...

I'd just save up for some good jaws. Or have a guy in a metal shop make you some.
